Getting To The Hockey Museum

Our address:

The Hockey Museum
13 High Street
Woking
Surrey
GU21 6BL
United Kingdom

THM is located in the heart of Woking Town Centre resulting in excellent access to public transport. We are located just minutes from Woking's bus and train stations (see: Google Maps; buses run along The Broadway into High Street).

There are also a number of pay-and-display car parks sited locally for visitors to park in (see: Woking Borough Council map) but direct access to THM is problematic due to restricted vehicular access to High Street. There is no parking along High Street at any time. We recommend that the only time visitor's drive directly to the Museum is if they wish to drop of weighty or unweildy collection offers (artefacts or archives offered for donation to the Museum's collection). In this instance, visitors must complete Woking Borough Council's simple online form 7 days in advance of arriving at THM or risk being in receipt of a fine. Vehicles granted access to High Street through this method will only be able to unload before having to move on and park in a public car park.

Accessibility

In spite of the vehicular access restrictions along High Street, the road enjoys recently rennovated pedestrian access with wide, flat pavements.

THM recognises that its current premises is not ideally suited to disabled access and is pursuing avenues to improve access to and within its premises.

There is currently two-step access to the front door of the Museum and a wheelchair ramp is being sourced to address this. Inside THM, the primary exhibition space is located on the ground floor, which has an occassionally uneven flagstone surface. The only access to the first floor in via stairs, though there are limited displays in this area.

Visitors to Woking can call upon the town's Shopmobility service should they require aid in getting to the Museum. Prior registration is required; see their website for details.

The Museum provides large format text for visually impaired visitors, however, there are no audio guides available at present. Currently there are no transcriptions available for audio interpretation, though THM has plans to introduce this in the near future.

If you have any other specific requirements related to a disability, please email the Curator, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone 07718 385804 prior to arriving.

Facilities

THM has no public toilet on site but there is an excellent facility, including disabled toilets, very nearby in Wolesey Place shopping centre (map and directions are available from THM).

With regard to refreshments: being in the centre of Woking, there are a multitude of eating a drinking establishments on the Museum's doorstep.

Do You Want To Donate Any Archive Material Or Artefacts To The Museum?

THM is keen to hear from anyone who has objects or archival material relating to the history and heritage of hockey and would like to find a safe home for them. This could be anything from a collection of books to a box of club records, from original hockey boots to old fixture cards, from scrapbooks of hockey tours to matchday programmes, from club or international kit to a reel of old cine-film depicting hockey matches.

We have a growing collection of hockey paraphernalia and official records that have been kindly donated to us by hockey supporters from around the world but the story of our sport is far from complete. We know that many interesting items of hockey’s heritage has been lost over the years and THM wants to ensure that from now on, all those boxes of hockey records, kit, trophies and other gems get offered to the Museum rather than ending up in a skip.

If you would like to donate items to THM or discuss a loan, please get in touch with our Curator, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
